Uber'ing Around Town

(Saturday 23 August 2014) by Rick Clot
Some highlights from last week's driving job. I picked up two nice, well dressed, young African American men who needed a ride to Old Town Scottsdale. When I asked if they were going to eat or drink they said no to both. That only left one other choice and since I've been out of that game for 43 years all I could do was drop them off in the middle of town and let them find their own action. Then I picked up three young girls going to a concert. They seemed more interested in each other's figure and how their dresses enhanced their female parts than who was singing that night. Then I gave two ladies a ride home that had just come out of a strip bar. Not sure if they were watching or performing and I didn't want to ask. Suffice to say that the conversation coming from the back seat was a little spicy to say the least. Then I picked up a nice young couple in downtown Phoenix and had to drive them to the far reaches of Chandler. It seemed like I drove forever to get them home. I couldn't help but wonder if I was in New Mexico at that point. I took two couples to a place they referred to as an "underground" club in a somewhat less than affluent part of town. I'm not sure what that is but it looked like a windowless warehouse in a residential neighborhood. I'm pretty sure I don't want to go back there again if I can help it. The majority of customers are locals or people in from out of town on business who just want to go out for a nice dinner and a few drinks and keep a low profile. Except the guy I picked up coming out of a local night spot who walked sideways to my car and couldn't get his feet in or out of the back seat. You talk about a low profile. That's the miracle of liquor.

Until Next Time,
From all around the town,
Rick
