10 Years of Softball

(Sunday 29 January 2017) by Rick Clot
Here's a short recap of the last ten years of my softball life, not that anyone's interested. Ten years ago I played on a fairly successful travelling softball team that went to tournaments throughout the southwestern United States. We won our fair share of tournaments and even got to the top of the mountain in 2010 winning the World Championships in Phoenix. We won a very nice championship ring for our efforts. It was a great feeling knowing we had a good team and would be competitive and had a chance to win any tournament we entered. But things changed as it always does and for a variety of reasons, mostly physical problems, I quit playing tournament softball. The competitive feeling I had when we were a good softball team and the fun we had going to out of state tournaments just wasn't there anymore. Then a couple of weeks ago a friend was putting together a 70's team and asked me if I'd be interested in playing. A 70's team? Ouch! That hurts just thinking about it. But I agreed to play and we entered a local tournament this past week. We played six games and won all six, the last being the championship game which we won by two runs. I had a lot of fun and it was a great group of guys to be around. This team asked me to play in another local tournament in a couple of weeks and I'm seriously thinking about it. The competitive fire in my gut is starting to rekindle.

Until Next Time,
Having fun in Surprise,
